‘Una storia di Tempo Reale: carte e memorie intorno a un’esperienza fiorentina di ricerca musicale (1987-2022)’ (‘A history of Tempo Reale: papers and memories of a Florentine musical research experience, 1987-2022’)
by Giulia Sarno (Rome, Squilibri, 2023)
“Founded by Luciano Berio in 1987, Tempo Reale is an important centre for research, production, education, and promotion within the electronic music field. Focused on the possibilities offered by new digital technologies, the Centre has also assisted many composers, from Berio to Battistelli and Sciarrino, from Stroppa to Guarnieri, in the creation of works characterised by the use of electronics, and has acted as an incubator for many other projects related to technology applied to sound, fostering the emergence of many young musicians.
Through a systematic reconnaissance of archival documents and drawing from the living voices of first-hand witnesses and key players, the book retraces the history of these past thirty-five years, in which Tempo Reale has gained a prominent position within the international framework of electronic music, also examining the political and cultural scenarios over which this singular Florentine music research experience has developed.” (G.S.)
