PERCORSO SILENZIO | VILLA CARUSO
A journey of acoustic discovery in the park of Villa Caruso
What sound remains of the many stories and voices of a place? What current listening experiences can originate from an experience of silence? Only silence can be trusted with the task of transforming this tension into an acoustic and emotional experience that can stimulate the personal sensitivity of each individual in a unique manner. Conceived in 2016 by Francesco Giomi, Percorso Silenzio (“Silence trail”) is a practice of perceptive awareness of the phenomenon of silence and of its perspective relationships with listening. The project therefore on the one hand wishes to contribute with an environmental perspective to the attempt to explore the condition of silence, and on the other hand tries to “perceptively inhabit” significant historical-architectural places, contributing to their discovery and appreciation. A guided tour lasting about an hour that leads small groups of the public through a series of the villa’s significant environments, in complete silence. This will be preceded by an introduction dealing with some of the fundamental notions of sound, as well as a contextualisation of the most important historical and architectural elements.
