FABRONI SOUND GARDEN #3. Sound landscapes for the Artist’s Garden of Palazzo Fabroni

    6, 8, 10 September 2024 –19.00 hrs, via Santa 5

Giardino d’autore di Palazzo Fabroni, PISTOIA

Specifically conceived for the gardens of Palazzo Fabroni, the FABRONI SOUND GARDEN project offers three performative “sound actions” capable of connecting both with the space around them and with the artistic meaning that they convey. The distinctive feature of this third edition is the active involvement of local citizens, both for the construction of a significant listening practice and as “musical improvisers” within a participatory art action.

COME SUONA PISTOIA? | Guided itinerary of active participation in listening to the city
With the participation of musicians from the Tempo Reale Electroacoustic Ensemble

This project is being brought to the city of Pistoia for the first time and will have the gardens of Palazzo Fabroni as its starting and arrival point. The practice of the soundwalk will wind out through the streets of the old town from here, also running into specific sound moments (entrusted to performers with portable instruments) that will allow significant locations of the urban fabric to “resonate” and to be acoustically appreciated. The entire operation will be guided by an experienced figure who can draw the audience’s attention towards themes such as the sound landscape, acoustic ecology, the sustainable city, and quality of life, involving the public in a participatory process that is open to all, and which can be implemented without the need for any musical training. The soundwalk experience is significant and very useful for the reappropriation of public and aggregative urban locations, but also to increase civic awareness regarding the way sound plays an important role in the sense of belonging and care for the territory and for psychological well-being.

    GIUSEPPE CHIARI | Free improvisation
    Musical experience for 70 soloists

*DUE TO A MUNICIPAL WEATHER ALERT ORDINANCE THE EVENT IS POSTPONED TO A DATE TO BE DETERMINED*

This is the staging of one of the final collective and participatory experiences of renowned Tuscan Fluxus artist Giuseppe Chiari. An actual happening, where seventy musicians (both professional and non-professional, each with a transportable instrument) meet with the audience in the museum’s open-air spaces to give life to what we might define as a “sound party”, in which Chiari’s provocative indication, “for 70 soloists”, is condensed into an overall mass of sounds in continuous movement, under the banner of the full reception of different forms, methods, and performers.
A public call will allow a conspicuous number of the area’s amateur performers to join the musicians of Tempo Reale, resulting in a unique performance that has only once been previously performed in Tuscany, back in 1990.

Featuring: Cristina Abati, Inês Tartaruga Água, Alessia Anastassopulos, Gioia Anichini, Marco Baldini, Agnese Banti, Dagmar Bathmann, Edoardo Benucci, Monica Benvenuti, Stefano Bozolo, Francesco Canavese, Luca Cappelli, Fausto Caricato, Marco Carvelli, Gianfranco Cavallaro, Omar Cecchi, Jacopo Cenni, Martino Corrias, Edoardo Dal Prà, Gabriella Denisi, Anna Giulia Di Panfilo, Riccardo Di Mastropietro, Antonio Ferdinando Di Stefano, Giancarlo Esposito, Jacopo Fagioli, Simone Faraci, Giulia Ferrarese, Alberto Ferretti, Maria Caterina Frani, Antonio Freno, Paolo Gabrielli, Benedetta Gaggioli, Maximilian Gallorini, Andrea Geremia, Roberto Ghiozzi, Francesco Giomi, Gianni Grisolia, Victor Guaita Igual, Cristina Italiani, Koun Jeong, Vanni Lombardi, Giovanni Magaglio, Marco Magini, Benedetta Manfriani, Angelo Manicone, Francesco Mariano, Edoardo Marraffa, Sara Montagni, Maurizio Montini, Nat Nat, Ester Obiang Ndong, Gabriele Olivieri, Murat Onol, Xavier Paes, Mattia Palagi, Diego Palazzi, Beatrice Parapini, Enrico Pierantognetti, Cristiano Porcu, Fabrizio Puglisi, Martino Rappelli, Edoardo Ricci, Dario Sabatini, Domenico Saccente, Chiara Saccone, Eugenio Sanna, Luisa Santacesaria, Lorenzo Santoro, Leonardo Saracino, Aldo Scarpitta, Renato Sclaunich, Alessia Sibaldi, Kirsten Stromberg, Daniela Tamborino, Lino Testa, Giada Turini, Giuliano Tremea, Andrea Trona, Leonardo Vita, Francesco Vogli

    LUCIO GARAU | ICHNOS

How can the extraordinary tradition of Sardinian music be projected into a contemporary garden? Lucio Garau is one of the most important Sardinian composers, a true authority in the field of current interpretation of ethnic-based sounds. This original work, composed by Garau especially for the occasion, will inhabit the horizontal and vertical spaces of the Fabroni garden, enveloping it in a powerful acousmatic itinerary of rare emotionality. The traditional canto a tenore, the sound of instruments and the typical Sardinian dances are the fundamental elements that give life to an articulated and prolonged compositional process with a marked poetic outlook.

Later that same evening the inauguration of SOUND LIFE will be held. This event was originally scheduled for Sunday 8 September but was postponed due to the municipal weather alert ordinance, and will comprise a sound installation dedicated to the last forty years of musical research, through works and voices from the Tempo Reale archives. This event is promoted and organised by Comune di Pistoia/Museo del Novecento e del Contemporaneo di Palazzo Fabroni, and is a Tempo Reale artistic project curated by Francesco Giomi, created in collaboration with Architettura Sonora; it is supported by the PAC2022-2023 – Piano per l’Arte Contemporanea contemporary art plan, and sponsored by the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.

    Free admission to all events.
In case of bad weather: the September 10 event will be moved inside the Museo del Novecento e del Contemporaneo of Palazzo Fabroni, the events of September 6 and 8 will not take place.
