PERCORSO SILENZIO MANICOMIO
An itinerary discovering the sounds of Villa Medicea dell’Ambrogiana
Concept Francesco Giomi
Conduction Loredana Terminio
What sounds from the multiple stories and voices of the Montelupo criminal asylum remain? Can the architectural and functional history of such an important place truly be assimilated? Only silence can be entrusted with the task of unambiguously inspiring each person’s sensibilities. Tempo Reale’s project cycle dedicated to silence is therefore on the one hand contributing to an attempt to explore this condition with the objective of reaching a degree of consciousness regarding the importance of every gesture, of every acoustic signal, of every breath; on the other hand, the objective is also to “perceptively inhabit” significant historic and architectural places, helping out in their discovery and valorisation. A guided itinerary of approximately one hour will lead completely silent small groups into a series of significant environments of Villa Medicea dell’Ambrogiana. This will be preceded by an introduction regarding some of the fundamental concepts of sound, as well as a contextualisation of the most important historic and architectural elements.
