Our exploration regarding the current great pioneers of New Music continues: Otomo Yoshihide is undoubtedly the most important representative of Japanese experimentation. Yoshihide first became known in the mid-Nineties thanks to his works for turntable as well as important collaborations with John Zorn, Elliott Sharp, and many others. He then returned to the electric guitar and to experimental jazz, fronting several band lineups, including the New Jazz Ensemble and the Otomo Yoshihide New Jazz Orchestra (which would later also become a trio, a quartet, and a quintet), often with international guests such as Jim O’Rourke, Mats Gustafsson, and Axel Dörner. In recent years, Otomo Yoshihide has also been a key figure in the cultural rebirth of the Fukushima district after the environmental catastrophe of 2011, actively contributing in the creation of an important music festival named Project Fukushima.

Project conceived in collaboration with Giuseppe Vigna
