Commissioned in 2017 by Cineteca di Bologna for the commemorative DVD of Battleship Potëmkin, the new soundtrack created by the Edison Studio composer collective offers an actual reinterpretation of the film in a modern key, blending music, voices, electronic sounds, and environmental noise revealing the atmospheres, the meanings and the secret rhythms of Ejzenštejn’s masterwork. Ceccarelli (who has already performed at the festival a number of times) and his fellow composers and instrumentalists will perform the soundtrack while the film is being shown, with a multi-channel sound spatialisation. Over ninety years after its first showing, Edison Studio’s soundtrack adds itself to Ejzenštejn’s renowned film editing, the human pathos, the symbols, and Eduard Tisse’s wonderful photography which is enhanced by the recent restoration, making this Bronenosec Potëmkin a true spectacle, once again original and topical.
