Robert Normandeau is a composer who concentrates on acousmatic music, although he has also composed some electroacoustic works with live instruments. His compositions use aesthetic criteria through which he creates a “cinema for the ear”, where meaning and sound become the primary elements that develop his works. More recently, Robert Normandeau has composed a cycle of immersive works for domes of speakers. Alongside concert music, for the last twenty years he has composed stage music, mainly for the theatre. He has also worked as artistic director for over twenty years, most notably for the Clair de terre (ACREQ) concert series, at the Planétarium de Montréal from 1989 to 1993, and Rien à voir and Akousma (Réseaux), from 1997 to 2006. From 1999 to 2023 he was professor of electroacoustic music at the Université de Montréal and he directs the Groupe de recherche en immersion spatiale (GRIS), which produces sound spatialization software. He has been awarded three Prox Opus by the Conseil québécois de la musique (CQM) and two Masque Awards (Best music for the theatre) by the Académie québécoise du théâtre (AQT)
Conceived in collaboration with Andrea Gozzi
