RICERCA RADICALE | In conversation with David Toop

David Toop is one of the most iconic figures in experimental music of the past forty years. A leading figure in the British improvisational scene, member of the Flying Lizards, and now active as a musician with a number of collaborations, Toop is also one of the most important names in avant-garde music criticism, being a long-time collaborator of Wire Magazine and the author of fundamental texts such as Ocean of Sound: Aether Talk, Ambient Sound and Imaginary Worlds. He is also active in the curatorial and academic fields (he is a professor of Audio Culture and Improvisation at London College of Communication) as well as a researcher in world music with an ethnographic interest, as shown by the recent publication of Lost Shadows: In Defense of the Soul, an album that contains the recordings made by Toop in 1978 of Yanomami shamanic rituals.

The conversation will be structured upon Toop’s vast interests and multifaceted activity, and will be conducted by Giulia Sarno, PhD student in History of Entertainment at the University of Florence.

    Admission free
