KATRINEM_ SchuhzuGehört_Path of awareness / Arno
Understanding the sound of a territory
The workshop held by German artist Katrinem consists of a journey of consciousness exploring the individual and personal experience of walking through an open space, with special attention to the interaction between the sonic event (footsteps) and the surrounding architectures.
By travelling several times across the river Arno and its bridges in the Montelupo Fiorentino municipality, one may increase their understanding of the way the river is integrated with the environment, and assimilate the daily and dynamic flow of its social and economic interactions. A travelling exploration will also be undertaken to investigate the area’s walkability, as well as its architectural and meteorological characteristics. At the same time as the walks, sound studies will be performed using recording devices and photographic documentation of the views and positions of the various sonic landscapes found on the way.
The final result will be visible on three different levels, starting with an audiovisual documentary on the walk and the interactions between the pace and the surrounding environment in the various places explored. The second step will be the creation of a series of guides for walks and listening sessions along the route in question, and finally a graphical score will be produced using specific symbols and icons which may be understood by those members of the public who may wish to undertake the route on their own. The SchuhzuGehör_path of awareness format has already been performed in various other cities worldwide.
