Silenzio, si urla! – Cod. 204, Sound awareness project
The classroom is often a place where voices and sounds overlap, creating a chaotic sound environment that does not facilitate communication or learning. Silenzio, si urla! (“Quiet, we are screaming!”) is a didactic itinerary aimed at the rediscovery of that subtle balance between silence and the presence of sound, a moment of discovery of voice and of the act of listening. Voice education is an important topic for pupils as well as for teachers, where vocality is considered as a trace of one’s sound identity, which emerges from silence to be delivered to others. Therefore, silence becomes the essential condition for communication, a place of discovery and not an instrument for punishment and constraint. This modular and interdisciplinary itinerary includes a progressive path of listening and exploration, running through one’s body, one’s voice, and sound, all considered as direct elements of relationship with the environment and with others. The recipients for this itinerary are primary and secondary schools.
In the current situation of uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tempo Reale is offering valid alternatives to the project in the event that it cannot be carried out in its regular formula.
The project can be carried out outdoors, in spaces made available by the school. Should the school not have open spaces considered suitable for teaching, Tempo Reale is offering the possibility of carrying out the project using distance learning, always upon agreement with the teachers regarding the methods. Some of the sessions can be held remotely, supported by video tutorials previously made available to teachers, while the remaining sessions can be held at Limonaia di Villa Strozzi, Tempo Reale’s spacious concert venue.
All procedures will in any case be agreed upon with the teachers according to the anti-contagion rules and regulations in effect at the time of the project.
