BLUTWURST / TENEBRAE (TRC07)

The “Tenebrae” project is based on fragments of the composition Tenebrae factae sunt, contained within the Responsoria et alia ad Officium Hebdomadae Sanctae spectantia, composed in 1611 by Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa. The original materials undergo a temporal dilation process that alters the relationship between the various melodic lines. A second transformation then occurs in an almost spontaneous manner, through an analogue manipulation of sound on magnetic supports, where instrumental extracts performed by the group’s musicians are recorded. The low quality of the tape recording lends the sound a distinctive grain, deforming it further and exasperating its transformation.
