COME SUONA LA TOSCANA | MANIFESTATION OF INTEREST FOR COMPOSERS

Ever since 2008, Tempo Reale has given emphasis to the themes of the “sound landscape”, launching various research projects and offering many initiatives in Florence and elsewhere dedicated to research on environmental sound.
Following the pandemic period and the reflections on sound and acoustic environments that have since arisen in the cultural debate, Tempo Reale is interested in projects that reflect over “soundscape composition” as an action of authorial creative reinterpretation of sounds and acoustic environments in reality, also integrated with further sound sources of any kind.

During the next Autumn, and in collaboration with a core group of significant partners, Tempo Reale will organise a series of activities dedicated to the themes of environmental sound. In view of these events, the Centre is offering this “manifestation of interest”:

The creation of a soundscape composition on audio support, dedicated to the city of Prato, possibly being inspired by or related to the Luciano Berio and Bruno Maderna’s work “Ritratto di città”, which will be performed together with the new composition. The new creation should have a duration of 12 to 20 minutes and may be open to any expressive orientation, as long as it is characterised by elements of novelty. It will presumably be presented in two concerts in Prato, and performed by its author through a multi-channel sound diffusion system. A total budget of 1000€ is set apart to cover out-of-pocket and commission expenses.

The call is open to all Italian musicians or musicians residing in Italy, without age restrictions.
Upon selecting the musicians, positive consideration will be given to previous experiences, the relevance of the creative path to the indicated themes, and the motivations for collaboration with Tempo Reale.

The expression of interest must be sent via e-mail by 20 May 2024, to the address call@temporeale.it

    The e-mail must contain:
    – Curriculum of the proposer and motivational letter
    – Authorisation to process personal data pursuant to GDPR 2016/679
    – An example of soundscape composition on audio support, created within the last five years, in high quality audio format

The selection of musicians will indisputably be carried out by Tempo Reale on the basis of the documentation presented, possibly integrated with further documentation and/or interviews as deemed necessary.

This project is carried out as part of the collaboration between Tempo Reale and the University of Florence, within the “Come suona la Toscana” (“How Tuscany sounds”) project, which aims to highlight the anthropic sound heritage of the region, including musical practices of oral tradition.
